Alice Pavel - Aged 10 - Runner Up!
A twisty-turny tale that unsettles with its eerie tension, a playful attitude towards narration, and some truly ghoulish imagery. The writer has a strong and confident authorial voice that really creeped us all out. The use of literary techniques is very impressive, and the dark tone of the story was successfully portrayed. Your language choices were really impressive. We liked the acknowledgment of the reader in this piece and the writer’s advice to them. Overall this was a wonderfully imaginative story with a very spooky ending, and brilliant plot. Well done on creating such a chilling, thought-provoking piece.
Reality?

Can you tell the difference between reality and irreality? If so, then I’m about to tell you that’s wrong: no one has ever witnessed true reality or true life.

I’m about to mention that someone in the centre of Congo witnessed the real reality of what is supposed to be called Earth.
Her name is Kiara Levengton and she is in her room, simply thinking about her weird dream she’d be having for a couple of days now. She thought to herself - “Should I be concerned ?...”. For a few seconds she realised it was best to contact police but no… “KIARA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!!” she yelled as her face got red but quickly faded onto her serene picture-perfect face. “It's just a stupid dream! Snap out of it! Just a dream, just a dream, just a dream…”. Kiara let out a sigh as she started to carry herself with tired baggy eyes to her bed and lay down; too sleepy to remember to put on her nightgown and sleeping mask.
Anyways, a slight twist that could potentially mentally and physically harm some of the readers of this completely ‘fictional’ story is about to unfold. Therefore, I kindly ask- look away. Its best if you don’t read this book or even just rip it and throw it away because all it brings is more fear and terror to your dreams that soon will become nightmares.
I think it's best to return to what we were reding.
Young Kiara's been dreaming about this unusual middle-aged man with a surreal creepy face. Correct me if I'm wrong ,but although she was taught not to judge a book by its cover , as unusual as it might appear, she still found him unsettling. Even as someone that wrote this madness, I have to admit there is something about him that was just wrong and disturbing.
Her night wasn’t unusual so far. A deep sleep faceplanting the pillow and some REM (rapid eye movement). At least it was all fun and games until the witching hour……….12 o clock as in some cases 00:00, when little Kiaras body gently started to lift, her head tilting as something unseen, no shadow, no sound, was carrying her. The girls' eyes had a shimmery white glowing effect on them as she awakened in her own dream. Just like something one of you folks would say it’s a myth but trust me, it isn’t. A black cloak figure flew past by the glimpse of her eye as she spawned in a forest with tall trees staring down at her and little creature that seemed to be greeting her with a warm smile. That looked unusually familiar to her, but she didn’t recall ever stepping a foot in there. Kiara looked around fascinated and scared at the same time. The critters stepped aside with their eyes still gazing upon her and revealed a dark presence with decaying teeth and the eyebrows like a bush.
“Ah! a little one arrived after all this time of isolations in the forest of hell” the shadowy figure said in a deep voice, with a menacing grin on his face.
“HELL?!?!?” Kiara screamed like she was forcing her vocal cords to explode “b-b-but I wa-“
“no buts..... I'm not here to harm you. Just do a simple task for me” he slurs as he reveals his rotting teeth.
Kiara winces at the sight of the ghastly man “No! I'd never do anything for you!” she yells from the bottom of her heart.
“Well then I'm afraid you would have to face some consequences you might dislike” he continues, his grin getting bigger after every word he spoke.
Her face darkens as she realises, she might not wake up from this ‘dream’, she might not ever wake up.
She witnessed reality...... Nothingness is reality....
