Seb Denny - Aged 6
This was such a sweet and colourful tale, crammed with playful imagery and a great attention to detail – not to mention the fantastic illustrations! The illustrations are beautiful and it’s awesome to see seals getting some coverage over other animals! The faces were drawn so well, and I loved how much character there was. I could see this being an animation on the telly! We really felt like we were listening to the day in the life of a seal! It made us so happy to read about Whiskers. Your Seal knowledge is extraordinary for your age, and we feel like we learnt a lot through this story.
We particularly liked the used of onomatopoeia when using ‘mmmm’ to talk about there being lots of fishes. As I would imagine that would be how a seal would react to that situation. We also thought the name ‘Whiskers’ for a seal was absolutely perfect; great choice!
Seals!
I am a seal called Whiskers. I live with my friends on a heart rock. When it came to high tide I would climb off the rock and swim 9 metres and swim back with a colony of fishes. Yummy. And share them with my friends.
When we were done we would go for a walk along the beach to a big lighthouse and look at the light on the lighthouse until our eyes hurt. And then we would climb back to the rock.
The first day I woke up and I was happy because the rock looked like a heart and the beach was lovely. It had loads of seals there and the beach had warm water and there were lots of fishes to catch and it was sunny with big clouds. It only once rained. The sand was nice and dry.
When I got used to it no one came on our rock and we caught some mackerel and we like it. Yum. But there was loads of fishes mmmm they were nice too. But the mackerel was our favourite. My family had gone on holiday so I was left with my friends. But I never met my cousin, the prehistoric sea lion, because he is extinct. But I still love it there. It is paradise. When I get back to Westward Ho! I will tell my family about it because I loved it. I wish I lived there. It was yummy.
My fur grew because it was winter but I wasn't cold. I had some black on my body but in 13 days I was going to leave the beach. I still remember my mum. Then I went to swim and then went back and ate my dinner and went to bed.
With my friends then I woke up to find a starfish on my head. So I went for a swim and there were loads of octupuses. I caught one but it was disgusting.
I was drinking with my friends and eating. But that isn't the end. We were satisfied about it.
The end.
